Trip Overview

The Everest Base Camp trek, a very well known mountain trek in the world, starts at the upper Phakding(2610M) and follows the Dudh Koshi valley which climbs up to the Sherpa capital of Namche, a bustling bazaar that’s a junction for trekkers, the local Sherpa and expeditions en route to the mighty Mt. Everest. All along this part of the trail, villages are interspersed with magnificent forests of rhododendron, magnolia and giant firs. In both the early autumn and late spring, the flowers on this portion of the trek make it the kind of walk you will remember for a long, long time.

Mt Everest Base Camp is the most popular destination for trekkers in Nepal. Its popularity has grown since the first expeditions to the Nepalese side of Everest in the 1950s. The trek takes off from Lukla. First we should take 40 minutes morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla and we land its tiny at Lukla Airstrip then our trek start to Khumbu Region.  The trek follows the Dudh Koshi valley route with an ascent up to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. From Namche, you traverse along a high path from where you have the first good view of Everest. You head towards Thyangboche Monastery located on top of a mountain ridge and then descend the Imja Khola and continue to the villages of Pangboche and Pheriche. After that you arrive at the Khumbu Glacier. The trek through the glacier takes you first to Lobuche and then to Gorak Shep, where you finally reach your destination, Everest Base Camp at the foot of the Khumbu ice falls.

We provide you with important information about the trip, so do feel free to take notes if you want to. Also, please kindly bring three passport-size photos, passport and travel insurance policy. Legal formalities, including liability waiver, will be taken care of in this meeting.

Once the meeting concludes, we begin our sightseeing of the valley for which a private vehicle along with a professional guide. The valley is dotted with fantastic cultural heritages, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These include Boudhanath Stupa (the largest Buddhist shrines in the world), Pashupatinath (the holiest Hindu temple in the world), Durbar Squares (Palaces and fortresses of medieval Kings), along with other popular cultural attractions. The lifestyle of the Nepalese people, holy sadhus and monks, the fascinating history and the awe-inspiring architecture will be the highlight of this day-long sightseeing trip.

Day 3: Kathmandu to Lukla flight(2840), then Lukla to Phakding trekking(2651m)

After a pleasing half an hour flight from Kathmandu to the town of Lukla in Everest region, we start our trek to Phakding. Your guide and sherpa porters will make all the necessary arrangement of your luggage and equipment.

The first leg of the trek is a descent towards the river called DudhKoshi, from where we head to Phakding. At around 2,500m, the trekking on this day is very relaxed and we take an easy pace to enjoy the wonderful scenery of the surrounding.

Day 4: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar(3440m)
On this day, we trek uphill to Namche Bazaar, also called the Gateway to Everest. We crisscross DudhKoshi over several trail bridges that are beautifully decorated with Buddhist prayer flags fluttering in the wind. We rest to learn about the SagarmathaNatinoal Park and how it has helped upkeep the region’s ecological and social integrity while promoting tourism. The climb to Namche is well rewarded with a bustling market and native culture, and of course the majestic views of the Himalayas up close.

Day 5: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar
We need to keep up with the altitude gain and let our body adjust to the thinner air pressure, for which we rest at Namche Bazaar on this day to acclimatize. The town has lots to offer to its visitors, from the celebrated museum showcasing from the history of Everest expeditions to the lifestyle of Sherpas. We will explore the area and see how the locals, mostly Sherpas, go about their daily lives. If time permits, there is the option of hiking to the nearby (decommissioned) Syanboche Airport for stunning views of the Everest Panorama.

Day 6: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche(3860m)
When we have sufficiently acclimatized at Namche, we start trekking to Tengboche, the home to the immensely popular Tengboche Monastery. We reach the town by making our way up the trails and along the shores of DudhKoshi River. Photo-perfect views of the mountains mark this trail. At Tengboche, we will explore the monastery, which hosts a massive statue of Buddha amidst elaborately decorated interior. We’ll have a chance to observe monks dressed in traditional Buddhist clothes chanting prayers in exotic ceremonies. From Tengboche, we will also marvel in the jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Everest region – the top of the world!

Day 7: Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche(4410m)
Following the trail down to Debuche, we cross the Imja River and then walk uphill to Pangboche. On the way you can enjoy innumerable mani stones before you finally reach Dingboche, which is a traditional Sherpa village and sports fabulous panoramic views of the Himalayas. Since we gain some altitude at this point, we walk at an easy speed.

Day 8: Acclimatization at Dingboche. Hike to Chhukung(4730m)
Today is a rest day at Dinboche for acclimatization. We go for a hiking at Chhukung at a comfortable pace to prepare for higher altitude the following day.

Day 9: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche(4910m)
As we walk away from Dingboche, the trails lead us along Khumbu Glacier’s lateral moraine and we can also see a memorial for mountaineers who lost their lives on expeditions. After some five hours of trekking, we get to Lobuche, which stands at 4,910m right next to the Lobuche peak.

Day 10: Trek from Lobuche to GorakShep(5140m), via hike to Everest Base Camp(5364m)
We carefully tread on the Khumbu Glacier up to the Everest Base Camp at 5,365m. Note that this is the farthest you can get towards Everest summit without mountaineering gear. We spend some time to admire the Himalayas at its finest glory, a reward well earned for your hard work. After EBC, we head back to GorakShep.

Day 11: Trek from GorakShep to Periche(4240m), via hike to Kalapatthar(5545m)
On this day, we hike to the Kala Patthar (a small peak at 5,545m), which has arguably the best panoramic view of the Everest range. The climb is steep and rugged, but given our trekking accomplishment, we reach the peak in no time. From Kalapatthar, we see Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Chagatse, Lhotse and several other peaks that make up the Everest range. We then head back to GorakShep, then on to Periche.

Day 12: Trek from Periche to Namche Bazaar

From Periche, we take an alternative route to Namche Bazaar. We first head to Orsho, followed by Pangboche. En route, we see the oldest monastery in the region which houses alleged remains of a Yeti. Heading farther south descending down the trails takes us to Tengboche before we finally reach Namche Bazaar at 3,441m after a five-hour trek.

Day 13: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla, via Phakding

We bid the mountains farewell as we head to Lukla via Phakding, our original starting point for trekking. We are able to cover more distance on our way back because the route is mostly a descent and at a relatively lower altitude, our lungs get more oxygen and hence, energy. Once in Lukla, the evening is free for leisure activities. We’ll celebrate our success with a few rounds of drinks and some traditional dancing with the locals.

Day 14: Lukla to Kathmandu flight

Today, we fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla, during which we get to enjoy birds-eye view of the marvelous mountains beneath. Once at the Kathmandu airport, you will be transferred to your hotel by Hike Himalyaa staff on a private vehicle.

Day 15: Leisure day and farewell dinner in Kathmandu
This day is free for rest and relaxation, spending some reflecting on the trek. Leisure activities like souvenir shopping, spa and more exploration of the city are definite options. You may also wish to extend your trip to include bungee jumping, rafting, Everest mountain flight and so forth. Later in the evening, you will be invited for a farewell dinner at a typical Nepalese restaurant, which will host cultural shows.

Day 16: Departure from Kathmandu
This is the last day of the trip. You will be transferred to the airport and we wish you safe journey back home.
