Bumthang Tangbi Mani Festival Tour Bhutan September 2010

Trip Overview

One of the most popular treks in Bhutan is the Bhumthang trek. This trek route takes you through the hearts of Bhutan guiding you through the four sacred valleys of Bhutan: Paro-Thimpu, Punakha, Trongsa and Bhumthang. Surely the land of Mahayana Buddha can be witnessed with all its might when one sees the grand monasteries in which Nyingmapa, sacred saints of Bhutan, reside with their humble peace and serenity. The trek takes you through various villages that gives you a glimpse of the rural life of Bhutan and also through the Bhumthang countryside, giving you the blend of culture and nature at one package.
For the ones with problem with altitude, but still desire a thrill of high-altitude climbing, Bhumthang trek provides an alternative.Visitors walk through the cultural centres of Bhutan and this somewhat three day trek is ideal for average walkers as the altitude does not go over 3,400 meters (11,155 feet). The trek route is best during October to May because the climate is calm and suits the tenderness that this route promises.

The major activity pursued in the trek is hiking through the top of monasteries on the ridge of the mountain and meeting the monks. This surely gives you a chance to experience the life of the followers of Mahayana Buddha up close and personally. There is an arts and crafts workshop that one can always visit to meet the traditional artisans of this culturally diverse kingdom. You also get the opportunity to visit impressive Dzong (fortresses that are former palaces), Buddhist monasteries and even some Hindu temples, giving you the essence of the multicultural prosperity of the land of the Dragons. A hike through the terraced farmlands of the villages and a visit to the farmhouse is sure to give you the rustic sense of the Bhutanese lifestyle and of course there is a chance to click in some great shots along the way. To make the experience more personal, one can always be there to attend the local festivals and events and visit the vibrant markets and towns. To give some taste of the natural wonders of the sacred land, visitors can also choose to take exciting safari rides through the jungles to witness the flora and the fauna of Bhutan, land of diverse ecosystems. Best of it all is the cave exploration where visitors walk into a cave, through a gorge and. Voila, a mountain viewpoint that keeps you eye awed!
