Trip Overview

Being some of the easiest, yet one the most spectacular, treks the Druk Path trek is the one of the most popular treks in Bhutan. Although the trek trails short, only about six days, it is packed with great views of majestic landscape and trips around beautiful lakes. This is the best trek to choose if you are a trekker that strives the adventure but lack strength. Reaching altitudes of 4,000 meters (maximum of 4,200 meters, highest camp 4,110 meters) this treks gives the experience of a high-altitude trek without too much strain as the camps are located at rather short distances. The trek is provides the best experience when visited during March to June & September to November.

The trip starts form the National museum in Paro and ends in Mothitang, Thimphu. This trekking route gives a diverse view of the natural beauties that this land of the Dragon has to offer. The speciality of this trek is that it allows you to hike past beautiful lakes through dense fir forests with a view of the mountains sandwiched between the Himalayas. Around the campsite, one can have the chance to view yaks and yak herders grazing across the green pastures of this gifted land. Along the way, besides the fauna trekkers can witness various species of flora as well. Most of the trail takes you through thick alpine forest hinted with dwarf rhododendron trees and blue pines, a grand view of what nature has to offer. Sometimes along the way, gravel roads reminds you of the human presence at times while sometimes the trek takes you through steep hills and ridges adding up to the adventure. Also, monasteries scattered along the way provides the best shots to take that combine the wonder of nature and the cultural essence of the Bhutanese plains. Surely, this is some of the trips that a traveller in Bhutan cannot miss.

Day 02 - Day excursion from Paro to the Taktsang Monastery
Today we hike to Taktsang Monastery, which is arguably the most notable structure in Bhutan. We climb through a gorgeous pine and rhododendron forest along the trails to the Tiger’s Nest. We take a few stops for rest along the way, which give us amazing views of the surrounding as well. The monastery, built in the 17th century, is perched on a cliff wall with a 900m drop to the valley below. This monastery holds a special significance for Buddhists in Bhutan.

Day 03 - Trek from Paro to Jele Dzong
The trek today is fairly short as we start from near National Museum. The trail slowly climbs up to the camp Jele Dzong. On a clear day the mountains can be clearly seen along with other surrounding regions from our campsite.

Day 04 - Trek to Jangchulakha

We start with a climb today and continue on through forests of alpine and rhododendrons. Snowcapped mountains can be seen during the trek and also come across several rare species of birds. There may also be yak herders near the campsite as this is a good spot for yak grazing.

Day 05 - Trek to Jimilang Tsho
The trail continues to the ridge. The magnificent views of the mountains and valley follow us throughout. We’ll be camping near the lake Jimilang Tsho at 3,880m, known for its gigantic fish. The trek today covers about 10 kms in 6 hours.

Day 06 - Trek to Simkotra
We trek from Jimilang Tsho on to Simkotra, located 4,090m above sea level. We head into forests of rhododendron and pass Janetsho Lake. There may be several yak herder’s camps along the way. Our camping site is right next to Simkotra Lake.

Day 07 - Trek to Thimphu via Phazoding
The trail starts to gradually ascend, but you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous views of Mt. Gangkher Phuensum, which happens to be the highest mountain Bhutan. You will also see other peaks of the Himalayas. After this the trail starts to drop, and you’ll be able to see Thimpu at the bottom of the valley. The trail is mostly downhill so even with a relaxed pace, you’ll be able to reach Thimpu within a couple of hours from the yak herder’s spot. The total trekking time today is about 7 hours.

Day 08 - Drive from Thimphu to Paro
After breakfast, we do some sightseeing in Thimpu. Some of the places we visit include the National Memorial Chorten, National Library and the Takin Reserve. The taste of Bhutan and its culture take you to another world altogether. After a hearty lunch, we drop by the Arts and Crafts School, the Textile Museum, the House of Incense and House of paper. As we drive from Thimpu, we stop at Ta Dzong on the way. The Dzong houses the National Museum and then we visit Rimpung Dzong in Paro. There is a cantilever bridge that we’ll cross – it was built almost 500 years ago and is located 18 kms from Paro. The fortress at Paro is quite a remarkable monument. We will explore the fortress and on a clear day we can also see Mount Chomolhari from here. We’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore and learn about the traditional Bhutanese lifestyle.

Day 09 - Departure from Paro (by Druk Air)
After having breakfast, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport for your flight to onward destination.
