Makalu base camp trek is an utterly marvelous, still untouched and an irregular route of trekking, even though it is close to the Everest region. Trekking in the Makalu region takes you through the beautiful Makalu Barun National Park, from the steamy lowlands of Tumlingtar, one of the least frequented areas of Nepal to the snowy Makalu base camp, which is one of theleast visited areas because of lack of adequate transportation there. The high altitude brings the risk of altitude sickness, but since there is no such fluctuation on the altitude, the trek is rather pleasant. The trek route takes you to the Makalu base camp, now consigned into Makalu Barun National Park and Conservation Area.
The trek is a unique adventure with roads that are far less travelled, panoramic view of the Himalayas and the sheer solitude of the area. Statting with a flight to Tumlingtar and heading up the Arun valley to Sedua and Num and then crossing the Shipton La Pass, this trek is a great feat for the ones who seek out for a little adventure, as well as the ones who want to enjoy the nature. The trail takes you from the humid lowlands near Tumlingtar on the Arun River through one of the least frequented areas of Nepal to Makalu Base Camp. The trek passes a large diversity of ecosystems and cultures, on lower sections of the trek there are Rai villages and at higher altitudes Sherpa villages.. Along the trail there are superb views of the south face of Makalu as well as Everest, Lhotse, Chamlang and Kanchenjunga.
Makalu base camp trek is considered as one of the most remote areas trekking of Nepal. Because of the limited access, Makalu Barun National park has been able to maintain its unique landscape, which shelters some of the last pristine mountain ecosystems on earth. Rare species of animals and plants flourish in diverse climates and habitats, relatively undisturbed by mankind. Makalu Barun National Park was established in 1992 as Nepal’s eighth national park covering 2,330 sq km. This area is a remote wilderness containing some of the last remaining areas of pristine forests and alpine meadows in Nepal.
Makalu base camp offers panoramic views of the south face of Makalu, as well as Everest and Lhotse are truly regal and fantastic, this area is blessed with diversity of natural vegetation, culture and biological diversity. Worth every bit of the hard work!
