Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, Kanchenjunga Trekking, Trekking in Kanchenjunga

Trip Overview

With less explored pathways, the Kanchenjunga Bas camp is one of the most adventurous treks, yet one of the least travelled. With the third highest mountain and other adjacent peaks towering up to 7000m and more, the trek is a great way to explore the serenity and the indulge on the sheer solitude of the journey. The trek route has everything you want a dream trek to be, challenging mountain passes, beautiful landscape with the magnificent Rhododendron forests, abundant wildlife, great hospitality along the way, and what not.

The trek can go for as long as 24 days, departure and returning to Kathmandu included. The varying altitudes may not be tolerable for all, but the majestic beauty of the area and just the sheer presence of the mountains along the way compensate for the fluctuation. The trek gives you a great opportunity of experiencing the true Nepali hospitality with the natives of villages and small towns that are on the way. Having to pass through areas like GuphaPokhari, Sekhathum, Amjilassa, Khambachen, KandeBhanjyang and Taplejung, there are some great cultures to experience, with some great local produce. The warm sun of the lower altitudes is combined with the red mud-coated houses in the area and the warm Brahmins and Chhetris there. As we proceed to the higher altitudes, the air of Busshism takes over with beautiful Gumbas, friendly monks and authentic Tibetan vibe all over.

In addition to the main peak, four subsidiary summits exceed 8000m, the most important being Kangchenjunga West, also known as Yalung Kang (8,505m). Of some twenty peaks exceeding 7,000m, the highest are Kambachen (7,903m), Jannu (7,710m), Jongsong (7,483m), Kabru (7,353m), Tent Peak (7,365m) and the Twins (7,350m). There are numerous impressive peaks over 6,000m which would have merited greater interest had they not been amongst such prodigious company.
This great cluster of peaks is highly glaciated and cradles five major glacial systems. Three of these, the Zemu, Talung, and Rathong, lie to the east of the massif and flow into Sikkim, eventually feeding the mighty Tistariver. In Nepal, to the west, the Kangchenjunga and Yalung glaciers form the major sources of the Tamurriver.
The trek is everything- adventurous, a trip back to our roots, cultural, spiritual, all at the same time. All that on a single trip is too good a deal. So pack up your bags, and get ready!
