Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

On your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, our airport representatives will warmly greet you, after which you will be transferred to the hotel on a private tourist vehicle.

Day 2: Trip meeting followed by valley sightseeing

Early next morning following a hearty breakfast, Hike Himalaya Adventures will host a pre-trip meeting at the hotel you’re staying. During this meeting, we introduce your trip guide, and we’ll be happy to answer any question you may have. We provide you with important information about the trip, so do feel free to take notes if you want to. Also, please kindly bring three passport-size photos, passport and travel insurance policy. Legal formalities, including liability waiver, will be taken care of in this meeting.

Once the meeting concludes, we begin our sightseeing of the valley for which a private vehicle along with a professional guide will be provided. The valley is dotted with fantastic cultural heritages, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which we’ll visit. These include Boudhanath Stupa (the largest Buddhist shrines in the world), Pashupatinath (the holiest Hindu temple in the world), Durbar Squares (Palaces and fortresses of medieval Kings), along with other popular cultural attractions. The lifestyle of the Nepalese people, holy sadhus and monks, the fascinating history and the awe-inspiring architecture will be the highlight of this day-long sightseeing trip.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara

You will be ushered to the bus station by our staff for the bus to Pokhara. The ride will be pleasant and go through one of Nepal’s major highways. For much of the ride duration, you will see gorgeous hills and the gushing Trishuli River. Once you reach Pokhara, you will be awestruck by the city’s natural beauty. The gorgeous Phewa Lake overlooking the Annapurna range, Macchpuchare “Fishtail” mountain more prominently, will take your breath away. Pokhara is the perfect place for relaxation and adventure activities as well.

Day 4: Flight to Jomsom. Trek from Jomsom to Kagbeni

We take early morning flight to Jomsom, which will be the starting point of our trek. The flight will be nothing short of exhilarating, thanks to the birds’ eye view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges below. These are some of the highest mountains in Nepal, and also among the most celebrated. Once we land in Jomsom, we start trekking to Kagbeni.

Day 5: Trek from Kagbeni to Chaile

Following the trails along the Kali Gandaki River, we climb over several ridges, passing many interesting villages like Tangbe, which sports whitewashed houses and narrow alleys. Another such village we come across is Chusang, which is nearby Tangbe. The trail gradually starts to climb away from the banks of Kali Gandaki River, taking us to Chaile, which is largely an ancient Tibetan settlement.

Day 6: Trek from Chaile to Geling

We start the trek through barren landscape, a prelude of Upper Mustang unique and mystifying terrain. Massifs including canyons and cliffs adorn the route. The pleasant trek first reaches the village of Samar after which we trek along the ridge to reach a valley field. Crossing a small pass along the way, we then reach Geiling Village in late afternoon.

Day 7: Trek from Geling to Charang

The mild climbs up to Nyi La Pass then takes us to a steel bridge over Tangmar River through an amazing landscape of red and rocky cliffs. En route, we admire the Mani walls, which hold religious significance in Buddhism. We do not gain significant altitude today as we reach Charang village, situated at 3,600 meters in height. Generations old monuments dedicated to Buddhist gods are real attraction here, which we will visit.

Day 8: Trek from Charang to Lo Mangthan

Along the route today, we will visit Lo-Gekar, considered one of the oldest Gompas in Nepal. After some exploration in this area, we head to our destination Lo Manthan, an ancient and an intriguing walled city at 3,840 meters above sea level. It is situated on a plateau overlooking a stream.

Day 9: Rest and hiking in Lo Manthan

We spend today resting in Lo Manthan and its vicinity, as well as light hiking. We will hike to Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. The former is perched on atop a hill whereas the latter is the farthest of the villages from Lo Manthan to the North. We’ll return to Lo Manthan after the hike.

Day 10: Trek from Lo Manthang to Dhi

As we trek, we first cross the Dhi pass, situated some 300 meters higher than Lo Manthan. As we make our way to Dhi, we admire the beauty of the barren yet stunningly beautiful landscape. In many ways Dhi appears to be more affluent, owing to its better resources and apt location.

Day 11: Trek from Dhi to Tange

For quite sometime, we follow a trail along the banks of a river before crossing the one draining Damodar Lake. We then ascend higher up until we reach Tange village at 3,370 meters. Tange is a small settlement with traditional row houses. Like in Dhi, the folks in Tange are also relatively more prosperous that other regions in Upper Mustang.

Day 12: Trek from Tange to Tetang

We continue on to Tetang today. The trek takes us through a steep ridge, with ample glimpses of wonderful scenery that surround us. The winds here are pretty strong, which is also the reason why our destination, Tetang, is between two hills, protecting from the relentless gust.

Day 13: Trek from Chuksang to Jomsom

On our final trekking day, we descend via trails that guide us through the Jharkot village, which is a great place for cultural exploration. Don’t forget to visit the Tibetan herbal medicine center here and an age-old fortress. The beautiful Kali Gandaki valley and Kagbeni make for a spectacular view you can enjoy during the trek. We finally reach Jomsom, where we rest and reflect on our trekking experience in the majestic Upper Mustang.

Day 14: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara. Sightseeing in Pokhara

Our flight to Pokhara from Jomsom will be early in the morning. The farewell views of Upper Mustang will definitely remind and reward you of your accomplishment. Upon reaching Pokhara, we head to the hotel for some rest and relaxation before our sightseeing tour starts.

Day 15: Leisure in Pokhara

The sightseeing of the city will start in the morning. A professional tour guide and a private vehicle are provided for this session, which will take us to the famed Fewa and Begnas Lakes, museums, Tibetan refugee settlement, Gupteshwar Cave and Davis Waterfall. All in all, the day will be eventful as well as relaxing.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu, and farewell dinner

We take a bus from Pokhara back to Kathmandu. Leisure activities like souvenir shopping, spa and more exploration of the city can be done in late afternoon. You may also wish to extend your trip to include bungee jumping, rafting, Everest mountain flight and so forth. Later in the evening, you will be invited for a farewell dinner at a typical Nepalese restaurant, which will host cultural shows.

Day 17: Departure from Kathmandu

This is the last day of the trip. You will be transferred to the airport and we wish you safe journey back home.
